Day 1
We depart Johannesburg early and
leave the bustle of the City behind us as we
head towards Timbavati – The place where the
sun rises. With fresh air and open fields
around us, we sit back and relax as we head
down the Escarpment to the Lowveld. Right in
the heart of the Mpumalanga Province, lies
the Kruger National Park. The park was
established in 1889 and is more than 2
million hectares in size – it is bigger than
Wales or Israel. More than 146 mammal
species, 507 bird species and 400 different
tree types call this spectacular Bushveld,
their home. Upon arrival to the Timbavati
Game Reserve, with its luxury en-suite
bungalows, we have time to explore the lodge
and enjoy lunch and refreshments, before our
first afternoon Game Drive. Our open 4X4
Game Drive vehicles are the perfect vantage
point and will prove to make our game
viewing an unforgettable experience. We will
arrive back from our game viewing before
dark. Dinner is served and we have time to
enjoy the magical sounds of Africa before
retiring to our bungalows.
Day 2
We start our day at dawn with a game
drive before breakfast to try and spot as
many animals as possible, before the heat
sets in. We return to our lodge for a hearty
breakfast. We have free time during the late
morning to enjoy the nature before lunch at
the lodge. We embark on an afternoon game
drive to see if we can spot more of the
magnificent creatures that roam this area.
The vehicles radio linked to other vehicles
in the Reserve, we therefore we have an
advantage in tracking down the elusive “Big
5”. We will return to our lodge late
afternoon and relax before we enjoy dinner
and talk about the days experiences.
Day 3
An early start on our last day at
the lodge and our last morning drive, before
a late breakfast and our departure for
Johannesburg. We explore the Panorama route,
the breathtaking views and spectacular
scenery of this area. Our first stop is
God’s Window, an overwhelmingly beautiful
viewpoint with a 1000m drop into the Lowveld.
Next we stop at Bourke’s Luck Potholes, this
is where the Blyde (Happy) and the Treur
(Sad) Rivers converge to form a magnificent
display of rock formations and whirl pools
in the Blyde River Canyon. In Pilgrim’s Rest
we take a stroll back in time, down the
historic main street. It takes us back to
the days of hopeful prospectors from all
over the world converging on this valley
trying their hand at gold-panning. After a
late lunch we return to Johannesburg late
afternoon.
